The Personal Essay Start-Up is a weeklong writing intensive in which rising seniors will learn strategies for writing engaging essays that can be used for college applications, supplements, and scholarship applications. What kind of an essay works best when you have 650 possible words? What happens when you only have an allotment of 150? Can the same essay work for various prompts? As the Personal Essay Start-Up offers a means of generating essays, it works well as a complement to the College Essay Workshops offered later in the summer at no cost to students through the Marist Counseling Department, in which completed drafts of essays receive feedback from students, an English teacher, and a college counselor.
